Nordic Girl
Nordic Girl is our club mascot, and can usually
be found donning various Nordic flags.
Formally re-established in 2009, the Nordic Society is an organisation attached to UCL (University College London) and affiliated with UCLU (University College London Union). Our Society is for those students with a Nordic background or interest in the Nordic countries, and by Nordic we mean the following territories: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Åland, Greenland and even Estonia.

Membership is open to any member of the Scandinavian Studies department, or indeed anyone across UCL. Members of the public can also join if they so wish. The map on this page shows the countries and territories we represent. We have members who are enthusiastic about all the Nordic countries, so it’s likely we have someone that speaks your Nordic language! UCL teaches language courses in modern Norwegian, Danish, Swedish and Icelandic, as well as Old Norse, so our linguistic knowledge is diverse. Of course, it’s not all about languages.

Besides speaking to each other in languages no one else can understand, we involve ourselves in going on outings, watching films, playing kubb, cooking food for our parties, pub crawls, and occasionally dressing up as Vikings and go pillaging—literally anything could happen. Club events are organised by the club committee, and we are more than open to suggestions. The committee also represents in the interests of the club within UCLU. On our events page you will find all of our exciting upcoming functions, both those organised by the committee and external Nordic events happening across London.
